Christine Stay Christine didn't
pick up a bass until after college. She learned by playing along
with the radio and CDs. Four months later she was on stage. Maybe
growing up in Woodstock NY, a town filled with working artists,
gave her some artistic spirit and freedom. Whatever the reason,
once she learned to play a little, it never occurred to Christine
that she should be anywhere but on that stage - no matter that
she had no music schooling, no experience, no business being
there. You still see a bit of that reckless enthusiasm in her
performances today.Songwriting and singing came later, with the
same "dive right in" philosophy. With a knack for
interesting phrases, a big vocal range, and a unique style
Christine seems like a natural on stage. But she says its
anything but natural. Its just a compulsion to keep experimenting
and doing things that are new and even uncomfortable.
